Senior Manager Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs

The Senior Manager Mental Health, Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) will provide strategic leadership and coordination of the Mental Health and AOD initiative for Wentworth Healthcare. This includes leading regional planning and commissioning for mental health, AOD and other funded areas aimed at improving the health outcomes for people within the mental health and AOD population groups across the Nepean Blue Mountains region. 

Some of the main responsibilities include:

  • Lead the coordination and management of commissioning arrangements for mental health and AOD including reporting and contractual compliance.
  • In collaboration with the NBMPHN Health Planning and Integration team and key stakeholders, coordinate the development of annual regional needs assessments for mental health and AOD as a part of the commissioning cycle.
  • Lead and manage the development and implementation of the Stepped Care approach to mental health including engagement and communication activities and the development of a regional mental health plan.
  • Provide leadership and management for direct reports and their teams to achieve the vision, mission and strategic objectives of Wentworth Healthcare and key performance indicators in accordance with current contractual requirements.
  • Undertake key stakeholder engagement activities and collaboration activities at a strategic level including with Primary Health Care, the Local Health District, Mental Health services, Alcohol and other Drug services, Advisory committees, consumers, carers and other relevant agencies.
  • Coordinate the preparation of relevant reports for the WHL Executive, Department of Health and other relevant funders, agencies and stakeholders as required.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Health, Business or related field to perform duties.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of working in health care settings with extensive understanding of the Mental Health and/or AOD service systems.
  • Project management experience and expertise and an understanding of the components of the commissioning cycle.
  • Demonstrated success in senior management roles, being responsible for a team (or multiple teams) of individuals and coaching teams to deliver program or organisational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully to develop partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders to effect change
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written with a high degree of competency in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
  • High-level organisational, analytical and problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage complexity
  • A commitment to improving the service system for people with a mental illness or AOD issues
  • A strong work ethic with a positive attitude and enthusiastic approach to new situations, reform and innovation.
