The Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association would like to invite you to register for FREE palliative care training workshops which will be offered across Tasmania until May 2015. The workshops are designed to encourage uptake and use of the Guidelines for a Palliative Approach for Aged Care in the Community Setting.

JustHealth Consulting, the business arm of the AHHA, has partnered with the Silver Chain Group to develop and deliver the half-day workshops. The sessions are designed to familiarise participants with the COMPAC guidelines and provide the tools for participants to translate the guidelines into their own settings. The learning outcomes are familiarity with the guidelines, comfort with their influence and guidance on the professional role, and understanding of their intent. Training will be delivered in a case study/exemplar format and mapped to units of competency under the National Training Outcomes Cert III level.

Delivery of the workshops will be through two streams:

• Professional stream - 1:30 to 5:00pm
Includes paid health workers, unregistered care workers, nurses, allied health professionals, GPs, pharmacists etc. CPD recognition is being secured for this stream with agencies including the Australian College of Nursing, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, and the Pharmacy Guild.

• Volunteer/family carer stream - 9:00am to 12:30pm
Volunteers, carers and all with an interest in palliative care are particularly welcome to attend.

We have had a high level of interest in the workshops and expect that places will fill quickly, so book early! We are currently building a program schedule for subsequent workshops across Tasmania, and additional dates and locations will be added as they become available.

The team is also able to offer organisations the opportunity to deliver the training to staff on site, also at no cost. Should you wish to discuss the possibility of a dedicated workshop, or if you have any other queries about the training, please contact Yasmin – ybirchall@ahha.asn.au
