Join Professor Elizabeth Teisberg, co-author of Redefining Health Care, and her colleagues Profs. Scott Wallace and Alice Andrews for this two-day, highly-interactive workshop on implementing value-based health care.  The workshop curriculum will reflect the latest innovations studied at the Value Institute for Health and Care at the Dell Medical School in Austin, Texas.

Participants in the workshop will learn why value-based health care is essential and how to begin creating and implementing high-value care.  The workshop format combines case discussions of successful high-value care models with overview presentations and implementation frameworks that participants can readily deploy.  Participants will explore implementation cases from Europe and the United States, including the musculoskeletal care center at the new University of Texas Dell Medical School. Participants will learn about organizing care around medically-relevant patient segments, identifying opportunities to improve current services, measuring meaningful outcomes, accelerating learning in clinical teams, and succeeding with new payment models.

 Professor Elizabeth Teisberg, PhD is co-creator of the idea of value-based health care   strategy and co-author of Redefining Health Care: Creating Value-based Competition on   Results, with Prof. Michael E. Porter. Prof. Teisberg serves as Executive Director of the   Value Institute for Health and Care at the new Dell Medical School in Austin, Texas. The   Value Institute creates curriculum for transforming strategy, culture and measurement in   health care to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. Its translational research puts   into practice thought-leading work on value-based health care delivery. The Value Institute   also provides leadership for Dell Medical School’s patient outcome measurement. An   internationally recognized author and professor, Dr. Teisberg has won the Wachovia Award   for outstanding research, the Frederick S. Morton Award for Leadership, and the Book of   the Year Award from the American College of Health Care Executives.

Associate Professor Scott Wallace, co-founder and Managing Director of the Value Institute for Health and Care, leverages his business, health care IT, and health policy background to work with students, employers, health care leaders, and other stakeholders to transform health care delivery in the U.S. and around the world.

Prof. Wallace recently served as the Interim Chief Business Officer of the Dell Medical School and is an integral member of the Dell Medical School faculty. Prior to joining the University of Texas at Austin, Prof. Wallace helped to create Dartmouth’s Master in Health Care Delivery Science program, an innovative course for mid-career executives and clinicians and served on the faculty for Harvard Business School’s executive education program on health care strategy. He is also a Batten Fellow at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and was a Distinguished Fellow at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Prof. Wallace was appointed by President George W. Bush to chair the Federal Commission on Systemic Interoperability, which advised the White House and Congress on information technology and health transformation. He was also the first president and CEO of the National Alliance for Health Information Technology, and was a co-founder of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. Before his academic career, Prof. Wallace helped co-found an early-stage venture capital firm, was CEO of a specialty chemical company, and practiced corporate law at the Chicago law firm Kirkland & Ellis.

Prof. Wallace holds a juris doctorate from the University of Chicago Law School, a master’s degree with honors in business administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University.

Alice Andrews, PhD, Education Program Officer for the Value Institute for Health and Care and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education, uses her expertise in health care delivery education to create innovative curricula that enable health care providers and leaders, employers, and other stakeholders to transform health care delivery and improve health outcomes for patients.

Dr. Andrews came to Dell Medical School from The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice (TDI), where she developed an online Master of Public Health (MPH) program and helped launch the Master of Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS), a joint degree program between TDI and Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business. As a member of the Dartmouth faculty, Dr. Andrews taught courses on patient-centered health communication and survey research methods and developed curricula, including a case study on the Comprehensive Breast Program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, for the MPH and MHCDS programs. She also taught courses on Organizational Change, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship at Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Business. Dr. Andrews holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Cornell University, and an MS in the Evaluative Clinical Sciences from Dartmouth.
