Established to commemorate the life achievements of Professor John Deeble, this year's lecture will be delivered by Mr Michael Brennan, Chair Productivity Commission. 

While the impact of the pandemic on the healthcare workforce has yet to be fully realised, managing the transition of the workforce to new and different ways of working on a permanent basis will be essential to ensuring a health workforce that is agile, valued and supported. During the lecture, Mr Brennan will discuss the necessary policy measures required to meet the prevailing needs of the Australian health workforce. 

The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Professor Anna Peeters (Deakin University) with health leaders including Mr Michael Pervan (Communities TAS), Ms Yasmin King (Skills IQ), Professor Lisa Nissen (QUT) and Adj. Assoc. Professor Paul Burgess (NT Health). The panel will reflect on the complexities of the health workforce and the ways we deliver health workforce policy in Australia.

Sidney Sax medal presentation dinner

Immediately following the lecture, attendees may also choose to attend the Sidney Sax Medal presentation dinner at the National Portrait Gallery. The Sidney Sax Medal is awarded annually by the AHHA to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and improvement of the Australian healthcare system in the fields of health services policy, organisation, delivery and/or research (excluding clinical research). The 2022 has been awarded to Professor Susan Kurrle In recognition of their contribution to Australian healthcare.
