10 Year Health Agreement Blueprint Roundtable

Location: Sydney, New South Wales
Venue: Mercure Sydney International Airport
Date: 18 September 2017 2:00pm to 18 September 2017 05:00pm

This roundtable worked through various key issues and ideas to be incorporated into AHHA's proposal for a 10-year health agreement blueprint.

In March 2017, in a meeting between AHHA and Health Minister Greg Hunt, a request was made to contribute ideas for a blueprint for a 10‐year health agreement. A similar request was put to AHHA by Leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten and Shadow Minister Catherine King.

Given the focus on longer‐term planning, AHHA is developing a blueprint for a 10-year health agreement that aims to be visionary, yet feasible, with clear recommendations about the steps that can be taken in the short term to achieve medium and longer‐term goals.

Participants had the opportunity to contribute their ideas while hearing from key health leaders on some of the issues for consideration.

The roundtable began with a series of short 10 minute talks that helped set the scene.

  • Margaret Faux on the Constitutional framework for Australia’s health system and what’s possible and realistic
  • Prof Christobel Saunders on current research on value-based care in both public and private hospitals as it relates to cancer treatment
  • Michael Kitts on value-based healthcare in the public and private sectors
  • Prof Richard Reed on avoidable hospitalisations and primary care
  • Dr Paresh Dawda on patient engagement
  • Prof Jeffrey Braithwaite on the Australian Institute of Health Innovation’s NHMRC partnership for health system sustainability

The roundtable was be followed by AHHA's annual Sidney Sax Medal award dinner.
