The Sidney Sax Medal is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and improvement of the Australian healthcare system in the field of health services policy, organisation, delivery and research.

The recipient of the 2021 Sidney Sax Medal is Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite. Professor Braithwaite is a leading health services and systems researcher and Founding Director, Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University. 

A world-renowned researcher, Professor Braithwaite dedicated his career to improving the delivery and safety of the Australian healthcare system and the experiences of patients and providers within the system, and this is demonstrated through his role in contributing to the establishment of the largest health services research institute in Australia, the Australian Institute of Health Innovation.
