Western Health Alliance Limited (WHAL) is a company limited by guarantee incorporated in 2015. WHAL is trading as the Western NSW Primary Health Network. The company operates the Western NSW Primary Health Network, which is one of 31 PHNs across Australia funded by the Australian Government. Established in July 2015, WNSW PHN’s key objectives are increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of primary health care services for patients in western NSW, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes, and improving the coordination of care to ensure that patients receive the right care in the right place and at the right time. The board of directors comprises nine members with primary health care practice, policy, legal, business and financial experience as well as knowledge of the region’s community and healthcare sector. Western Health Alliance Limited is governed by a skills-based Board consisting of Directors who have the appropriate competencies, skills and experience aligned to the Skills and Attributes Matrix.
The preferred Candidates will need to agree to reference checks, credit checks, police checks and vulnerable persons checks.
The WHAL Board is now inviting expressions of interest from suitable candidates for a director to be appointed to the WHAL board, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of one General Practitioner Director. Under the WHAL constitution a nomination for the position of the director may be submitted by any person.
Diversity in the WHAL Board is a key requirement of the Company to ensure different perspectives are brought to the Board with a view to improving overall board performance. WHAL seeks to recruit and retain a diverse mix of Directors who are representative of the diversity in our local communities to ensure we have access to a broad range of ideas and continue to build an inclusive culture.
The Board has made a commitment that we retain a strong presence of Directors who have appropriate skills and experience aligned to the Skills and Attributes Matrix, and a demonstrated association with the Western and/or Far West NSW communities.
In the 2024 Appointed Director Nominations process, the Board is looking to maintain and enhance the skill set of the combined Board, we would welcome nominations for candidates who meet the following criteria:
Meetings and Remuneration
Board Meetings and Board Committee Meetings are held bi-monthly with the location rotating across major centres in the region. Directors are remunerated in accordance with the WHAL Constitution and WHAL Policy and Procedure.
Term of Appointment
In accordance with the constitution, the appointment will be until the close of the twelfth Annual General Meeting of the Company (in 2027).
