Job Description:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is a clinical leader, accountable at an advanced practice level for the coordination of patient centred clinical practice specific to the Maryborough Prison Health Service, and the provision of human and material resources within the Prison Health Service and Mental Health & Specialised Services Department. 

The CNC demonstrates sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and provides clinical leadership, advice and advocacy to a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the facilitation and provision of quality and cost effective nursing and/or midwifery services which are consistent with contemporary standards, guidelines, relevant legislation and best practice within the Prison Health Service. 

The CNC utilises data and information to ensure that the service is organised for safety and measures are in place to capture the standard of service delivery.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated expert, specialised and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary nursing practice within Prison Health including proven ability to lead and manage the delivery of evidence-informed nursing care.
     
  • Demonstrated ability to participate directly or indirectly in the delivery of clinical care to individuals/groups with-in the Prison Health setting.
     
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards in relation to all areas, both Queensland Health and Corrections.
     
  • Demonstrated high level leadership and management skills including advanced analytical and problem solving skills, professional engagement in change management, risk management, and human and resource management.
     
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment including influencing, negotiation, communication, conflict resolution skills, education and mentoring while actively contributing to the clinical environment.
     
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional development of self and others and the facilitation of an environment that encourages lifelong learning, mentoring and support for colleagues.
     
  • Knowledge of and a demonstrated commitment to evidence-informed practices, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to these improvements including nursing research.
