The Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) is currently seeking two new members to join our Community Engagement Advisory Committee and welcomes nominations/applications for these positions.
ACD is the sole medical college accredited by the Australian Medical Council for the training and continuing professional development of medical practitioners in the specialty of dermatology. As the national peak membership organisation, we represent over 600 specialist dermatologist Fellows (FACD) and 100 trainees across the country. Our vision is for the highest standard of skin health and dermatology care to be accessible to all patients and communities.
Committed to strengthening our community engagement and our governance, we established a Community Engagement Advisory Committee in 2016. The Committee provides highly valued strategic advice and support to the College’s Board and management on our community engagement and integration of community needs, priorities and perspectives into all aspects of our work. This includes our governance and strategy, educational programs for dermatologists and trainees, GP education, engagement with patient support groups, community and community organisations, and our broader policy, advocacy and engagement activities.
The Community Engagement Advisory Committee is entirely comprised of non-medical professionals. Given the strategic nature of this group, the composition encompasses skills and expertise in governance and strategy; consumer participation and engagement; health systems and policy; rural health; medical education; and consumer representative experience at Board or advisory committee level; as well as several other areas. For one of the upcoming positions, we would particularly welcome applicants/nominees with expertise or involvement in mental health and/or in working with priority population groups.
The Committee usually meets four times per annum in person or by videoconference and members may be invited to be involved in other College governance activities. The College remunerates members for their time and covers travel and expenses incurred.
