The Role:

The role of the Deputy Director Continuous Improvement and Innovation (CII) is to manage the delivery and implementation of end-to-end business improvement and innovation initiatives across Joint Health Command (JHC) including CII initiatives under the ADF Health Services Contract. Initiatives will range from simple business process changes to the management of more complex initiatives such as low value care.

The CII team is a new capability within JHC with the initial focus for the role being the implementation of the CII framework. This position is responsible for staff supervision and mentoring of a small team of direct reports. Other responsibilities include the planning, development and evaluation of CII and innovation activities, the development and delivery of reports including executive briefs and performance reports, stakeholder engagement and representation at CII meetings and other forums.

NB: The current position is ongoing however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 12 months.

Due to the Government’s Christmas stand down period, interviews will potentially not be conducted until the New Year. 

About our Team:
The Continuous Improvement and Innovation (CII) Directorate is responsible for the delivery of end-to-end business improvement and innovation initiatives across Joint Health Command including initiatives under the ADF Health Services Contract. This includes the development of tools and frameworks to support CII initiatives, provision of advice to JHC initiative owners, stakeholder engagement, initiative governance and implementation of initiatives. You will be joining a small team that relies on each other’s knowledge and strengths to achieve the desired outcomes.


Ideal attributes include:

  • Previous experience working in a health care setting
  • Previous experience in continuous improvement/quality improvement/innovation activities within a health care setting
  • Demonstrated experience in coordination of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent co-ordination and organisational skills with demonstrated experience in working against numerous competing priorities and initiatives
  • Advanced communication skills including developed interpersonal communication
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to analyse and interpret data
  • Ability to work independently
