Job Description:

The Director of Nursing is a clinical manager, accountable at an advanced practice level for the coordination of patient centred clinical practice and the provision of human and material resources within the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.  The Director of Nursing provides leadership and line manager direction to nursing, administration and operational staff and is responsible for the facilitation and provision of quality and cost-effective nursing and operational services which are consistent with contemporary standards and best practice within the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service. The Director of Nursing utilises data and information to ensure that the service is organised for safety and measures are in place to capture the standard of service delivery.

Skills and Experience:

  • Expert and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary nursing practice within a Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service environment
  • Proven ability to lead and manage the delivery of evidence-informed nursing care in the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and consistently under pressure in a rapidly changing work environment and demonstrated engagement in change management.
  • Demonstrated high level management and organisational skills including advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment with internal and external stakeholders while actively contributing to the clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial and human resource management skills including demonstrated ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position
  • Advanced skills in people management, including negotiation, communication and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional development of self and others and the facilitation of an environment that encourages life long learning, mentoring and support for colleagues.
  • Knowledge of and a demonstrated commitment to quality business processes and evidence-informed practices, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to these improvements including nursing research.
  • Comfortable in communicating and negotiating complex clinical, administrative and management processes within a hierarchical multi-disciplinary environment.
