Remuneration value up to $143,881 p.a.

Job Description:

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the operational management of the pharmacy services at Bundaberg Hospital. This includes:

  • Provision of clinical leadership and authoritative clinical counsel within the pharmacy team and to medical and other hospital staff.
  • Managing the operational delivery of clinical and medication management services throughout Bundaberg Hospital
  • Maintaining the Pharmacy Department as a safe and efficient workplace

Service delivery will be in accordance with contemporary professional, legislative and quality standards including:

  • Queensland Government Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996
  • Commonwealth (APAC) Guidelines 2005
  • Professional Standards of Practice of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA)
  • National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS)
  • Queensland Health policies and procedures

Direct line management will be provided for HP4 and HP3 pharmacists, HP3 pharmacy interns, administrative and operational staff (pharmacy assistants).

Skills and Experience:

  • Clinical Expertise and Ability - Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge, expertise and skills in clinical pharmacy practice, and extensive knowledge of medication management issues and hospital pharmacy service delivery.
  • Ability to function as a resource, offering clinical advice and consultation on complex clinical pharmacy matters.
  • Communication - Demonstrated high level ability to provide authoritative counsel relating to medication management to stakeholders both within and outside of the hospital pharmacy discipline.
  • Operational Management - Demonstrated ability to provide operational planning and management to a multidisciplinary Pharmacy team, and knowledge of the administrative requirements for the management of hospital pharmacy services.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage clinical pharmacy teams, including responsibility for facilitating staff development, performance appraisal, conflict resolution and other general staff management issues.
  • Leadership - Demonstrated ability to provide active leadership in the development of high-level service improvement initiatives at a facility level and provide training, direction and guidance to pharmacy clinicians.
  • Human Resource Management Practices - Demonstrated ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
