Job Description:
The General Manager, Policy & Advocacy provides high level support to the Executive General Manager, Policy & Advocacy and leads the Policy and Advocacy team in the development of a suite of high quality health policies, reflecting the issues that are of importance to the College membership.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Strategic oversight of the work of the Policy and Advocacy team.
- Delivery of the directorate business plan, including Board P&A priorities and initiatives, and committee workplans.
- Ensure high quality policy support is provided to College committees and maintain good relationships with these stakeholders.
- Drive engagement with government and other external stakeholders.
- Monitor policy development in the health portfolio.
- Advise the College on the political and legislative agenda.
- Engage with College bodies on defined policy issues.
- Research, consult and write on a range of policy issues.
- Participate in the provision of rapid response to health issues as they arise.
- Help prepare submissions, reports, funding applications, correspondence, presentations and other documents as required.
- Providing guidance and support to the Policy & Advocacy team to maximise their skills and talents.
Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated health policy experience at senior level.
- Developed health networks and understanding of policy positions of key health policy players.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Australian government and health system structures.
- Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
- Experience developing and providing policy advice and recommendations within a complex organisation.
- Experience in leading and developing people.
- Knowledge and experience in Indigenous health would be highly regarded.
