Director of Medical Services

The Director of Medical Services provides executive management, leadership and support in the provision of clinical and other services.  Other responsibilities include Clinical Governance, Clinical Leadership, Clinical Risk Management, Disaster Management, Research, Quality and Safety, Psycho-Oncology Services, Allied Health and Strategic Management of clinical services for Calvary Mater Newcastle.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Registered Medical Practitioner authorised to practise by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (or working towards) and/or other Specialist recognition as provided for in the Salaried Senior Medical Practitioners or Medical Superintendent Award.
  • Demonstrated experience at an executive/ senior level in driving a culture of professional medical administration and governance, inclusive of issues relating to medical workforce, medical professional practice, clinical governance, clinical ethics, clinical teaching and clinical leadership.
  • Demonstrated high level of competence in interpersonal skills, consultation and effective communication with staff of the Health Service, including VMOs, professional organisations, medical associations, medical colleges and University medical schools, gained in a public health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in clinical strategic planning and clinical leadership for the provision of programs, and services consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, work health and safety, and ethical behaviour with a demonstrated commitment to their implementation.
  • Commitment to quality management, and proven capacity to initiate, foster and monitor an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of Calvary and the ability and desire to uphold these at all times.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and process.
  • Demonstrated involvement in strategic planning at a corporate level.
