Job Description:

  • The role of the Medical Officer with Private Practice is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to directly or indirectly benefit the patients/clients of the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.  This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.

Skills and Experience:

  • Provide clinical services, consultancy and advice to patients as required within a credentialed scope of clinical practice and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely, safe and effective medical services for inpatients, age-care residents and emergency presentations at the Rural Hospital
  • Ensure collegiate, multidisciplinary coordination of patient care
  • When rostered first on duty, supervise the daily management of patients including admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Conduct post on call ward rounds and handover to the next on call Medical Officer.
  • Provide outpatient services according to local arrangements.
  • Champion patient engagement regarding their care and treatment, to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Undertake supervision of junior medical staff and support other Senior Medical Staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of training and teaching programs for medical and nursing staff.
  • Participate in audit activities at the Rural Hospital.
  • Maintain currency of practice by participation in relevant CME activities.
  • Undertake relevant specialist training.
  • Be responsible for the quality and timeliness of documentation including same day discharge summaries.
  • Undertake WBHHS Mandatory training.
  • Actively encourage within your team, respect for Cultural Diversity including promotion of indigenous health.
  • Be a Patient Advocate and Engage positively with Patients and their Care.
