Mt Isa, QLD |

NWRH now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Podiatrist to join their Mount Isa team.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be primarily responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating discipline-specific clinical services and community education activities to prevent, diagnose, and treat disorders of the feet.

Although this is a clinical role primarily based in Mount Isa, you will see plenty of variety working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing services to the neighbouring communities and occasionally to more distant communities within the NWRH catchment area.

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Examining patients' feet to determine the nature and extent of conditions, deformities and injuries;
  • Examining and treating foot disabilities caused by diseases such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and other neuropathies;
  • Prescribing and arranging the fabrication of footwear to correct foot abnormalities;
  • Performing minor surgery to remove and improve abnormal conditions;
  • Prescribing and fitting replaceable pads, palliative and functional supports and other devices for the protection and correction of foot abnormalities; and
  • Advising patients about continued treatment and foot care

Skills and Experience:

 To be considered for this position you must hold a tertiary qualification in Podiatry and hold (or be eligible to apply for) current registration with AHPRA. Due to the diversity of services and working environments you will be exposed to, it is essential you be a flexible and adaptable individual who is open to change.

Podiatrists from all backgrounds and experience levels, including recent graduates, are welcome to apply. Regardless of your experience level, NWRH is looking for people who are resilient, collaborative team players, and motivated to provide high-quality, discipline-specific assessment, prevention, treatment and intervention to their clients. It is important that you are flexible in your delivery of outreach services as no two days are the same! With plenty of variety in the role, it would best suit an individual who is open and adaptable to change.

Critical to your success will be the ability to work independently. Whilst you will always have multi-disciplinary support, you should be comfortable working without direct supervision and be confident in your ability to problem-solve if, and when, required.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a Podiatrist who wants to get out in the community, gain multi-disciplinary experience and meet some amazing people in regional Queensland! Any previous experience working for a not-for-profit organisation and/or within rural or remote communities would also be highly regarded but is not mandatory.

Please note: The successful applicant must be comfortable travelling by road and/or small planes to communities within the catchment area. A current, unrestricted C class Australian Driver's Licence and the willingness to consent to a criminal record check prior to commencement is an essential requirement.
