Senior Manager Primary Care Support and Development

The Senior Manager Primary Care Support and Development will provide strategic leadership and coordination of strategies that enable accessible and appropriate primary health care services be available across the region.  The role will lead teams that work with general practices and other primary health care professionals to adopt best practice and new initiatives that enhance high quality primary care services.

Some of the main responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Leadership and oversight of initiatives that support general practice to deliver high quality services to patients across the region. This includes general practice support in the areas of quality accreditation, digital health, immunisation, quality improvement systems of data management and professional development.
  • Leadership in the implementation of strategies to increase uptake of new and emerging models of care in the primary care sector that support better patient care and integration across the health care sector – including  digital health and the ‘Health Care Home  and Health Care Neighbourhood’ models.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to identify and promote solutions to strengthen the primary health care workforce across the region, to better meet the needs of the local communities - particularly in areas where there is an identified workforce shortage and in the ‘after-hours’ period. This includes supporting staff to coordinate, develop and implement comprehensive plans for current and new workforce initiatives specific to WHL targets.
  • Coordinate the preparation of relevant reports for the Wentworth Healthcare Executive, Department of Health and other relevant funders, agencies and stakeholders as required.

Essential Crieteria

  • Degree in Health, Business or related field to perform duties.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of working in health care settings with an understanding of the Australian primary health care sector.
  • Demonstrated success in senior management roles, being responsible for a team (or multiple teams) of individuals and coaching teams to deliver program or organisational outcomes.
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written with a high degree of competency in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
  • High-level organisational, analytical and problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage complexity
  • A strong work ethic with a positive attitude and enthusiastic approach to new situations, reform and innovation.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding and or experience of the contemporary primary care service framework including the role of Primary Health Networks, and the not for profit sector within the Australian context.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in working in and/or supporting primary health care and current primary health care reforms.
  • Experience in working in integrated activities across health sectors that support improved health outcomes for the community.
  • Working knowledge of General Practice clinical and business software packages.
  • Contract management and commissioning skills including health planning.
