In Phase 2 of the Lighthouse Hospital Project, a quality improvement toolkit was developed: ‘Improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with acute coronary syndrome – A practical toolkit for quality improvement’.

The toolkit was piloted in the 8 hospital sites involved in Phase 2.

The toolkit was based on the four domains identified in Phase 1 that were seen as essential to ensuring clinically and culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as they navigated the hospital system.

The four domains were:

·         Governance

·         Cultural Competence

·         Workforce

·         Care pathways

The toolkit provides health practitioners with the tools and practical steps needed to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples received clinically appropriate treatment in a culturally safe manner, irrespective of the health service they attend.

Phase 3 aims to validate the toolkit as a valuable resource to support acute care settings to improve the care and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experiencing ACS.
