AHHA congratulates Professor Andrew Wilson

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

The Australian Health and Hospitals Association (AHHA) today congratulated Professor Andrew Wilson as the new Director of the Sydney node of the Menzies Centre for Health Policy (MCHP).

The Australian Healthcare & Hospitals Association is the independent peak membership body and advocate for the Australian healthcare system and a national voice for universally accessible, high quality healthcare.

“Professor Wilson has been a longstanding supporter and contributor to the AHHA and we welcome this prestigious and well-deserved appointment,” Ms Prue Power AM, AHHA CEO said today.

“The MCHP is a world-class centre which makes a valuable contribution to health-related research, analysis, advice and education and plays an influential role in shaping health policy and practice in Australia and internationally. Under its inaugural Director, Professor Stephen Leeder, the Sydney node of the MCHP has played a vital role in informing and influencing the current health reform process. AHHA looks forward to the continuation of this contribution under the leadership of Professor Wilson.

“AHHA believes that a key strength Professor Wilson brings to his role is his broad range of experience throughout the health sector, including working as a well-respected public health policy academic and a senior bureaucrat and manager.  This also includes his position as Editor-in-chief of the Australian Health Review (the peer reviewed journal of the AHHA) which has consolidated the AHR’s position as a leading journal in the health sector.

“Professor Wilson was also integral to the establishment of the AHHA’s Health Policy Research Institute in his role with founding partner, the Queensland University of Technology. This exciting new initiative is bringing policymakers, practitioners and researchers in the health sector to work together to build and strengthen the connections between these people and organisations.

“AHHA congratulates Professor Wilson on this new appointment at the MCHP and looks forward to working with him in his new role,” Ms Power said.
