Deeble Perspectives Brief No.1: Planning and enacting a business continuity and disaster recovery strategy successfully in a health service

On the 3rd July 2017, the Merri Health Corporate offices were destroyed by fire.

Located on the first floor of a two-level building in northern metropolitan Melbourne, the space accommodated approximately 50 staff providing corporate functions for the organisation, including office accommodation for the Executive Team. The support functions affected included human resources, quality, marketing / communications, finance, payroll, information systems, facilities, administrative and project staff.

The inaugural Perspectives Brief from the Deeble Institute of Health Policy Research demonstrates the importance that a robust and up to date business continuity plan has in any healthcare organisation in order to ensure the safety and effective management of the business during challenging times.
