Setting
- Crystal Brook and Laura District Hospitals are located 2-3 hours from Adelaide on the Yorke Peninsula. With a total population of 1,844 people (2021 data).
- The sites have a GP clinic co-located with staff working across both the clinic and the hospital. They are multi-purpose sites. They have an Emergency Department(ED), Inpatient Ward, and Aged Care Home.
- Additionally, Crystal Brook has obstetric services, operating theatres, and the ability to do infusions.
Context
- SAVCS was approached in late 2024 by the GPs and Directors of Nursing to enquire if SAVCS could provide virtual support to the sites.
- Patients wait a significant length of time for access to Primary Health Care due to competing priorities.
- SAVCS offers virtual urgent care from 8am to 10pm over the Health Direct platform.

- Our Future: Embed digital infrastructure and technology in service models
Objectives
- Be person-centered by providing timely, safe care without the need to leave the community unless necessary.
- Support the local healthcare workforce in managing their workload, positively impacting recruitment and retention.
