Air Liquide Healthcare and ACT Health are collaborating on a study entitled ‘Effect of Intensive Telemonitoring on CPAP Adherence-study’. This is a prospective randomized controlled study recruiting private and public patients to evaluate if a Value-Based Healthcare approach to CPAP Therapy will improve patient outcomes & decrease healthcare resources utilization.
The study consists in a 12 months study with 2 arms: one the usual care and the other using the concept of VBHC and enhanced technology to ensure that patients have access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time from a team of CPAP Therapy consultants trained in motivational coaching and technical expertise.
Care delivered to patients under the VBHC arm is based on data gathered throughout the care pathway into a unique digital platform, consisting of continuous data telemonitoring, regular collection of patients outcomes and well being questionnaires. CPAP consultants will engage with the patient to ascertain why the patient is non-adherent and, if possible, troubleshoot any motivational issues.
Care coordination with referrers when interventions are required for non-adherent patients can take place. All interventions are being recorded as to track the resource utilization costs.
By the application of VBHC, we aim is to increase by 10% the proportion of adherent patients to CPAP therapy at 12 months versus usual care. Besides, a cost-benefit analysis will assess the economic impact of this VBHC approach compared to usual care. This consideration of cost-effectiveness ensures that the intervention is sustainable and provides value to the healthcare system.
