I pioneered two digital health platform, called ‘Alexia’ (ISERN Medical Telecom) (2022) and ‘Interactive Clinics’ (2019). These consumer driven technologies enable patients, carers and clinicians to track (via smartphone, tablet and PC) various health outcomes in real-time such as pain assessment, medication adherence, physical activity progress, heart rate, body hydration, mental health state and LGTBQI+ specific outcomes. I also contributed to the creation of new policymaking for the European Pain Federation in the field of digital health.
With Alexia technology, I am introducing a unique funding approach whereby hospitals and private clinics pay a monthly subscription fee to use Alexia services. This model will provide ongoing research income to support student scholarships and reduces reliance on government grants to advance our digital health interventions. Below is a quantifiable metrics of the positive impact I have generated:
- My digital health platform has been adopted in four (4) large hospitals in Spain, (Althaia Hospital’; ‘Hospital de San Joan de Déu’; ‘Hospital de Sant Andreu’; ‘Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu de Martorell’) serving up to 15,000 patients with chronic and autoimmune diseases.
- 12,300 ehealth interactions were recorded between patients and clinicians between Australia and Spain. These outcomes collected since 2019, entirely replaced paper-based assessments.
- 4 UON PhD candidates have used Alexia technology in 3 NSW hospitals (Type 2 Diabetes: John Hunter. Paediatric: John Hunter Children Hospital & Westmead Children Hospital).
- The outcomes obtained from our clinical trials using InteractiveClinics led to 5 publications in top-ranking journals
