Oral health

1 February 2021

Australia’s National Oral Health Plan 2015–2024 is a blueprint for united action across jurisdictions and sectors for all Australians to have healthy mouths.

Translation of the National Oral Health Plan into practice has been slow. A universal approach to oral health on a scale and intensity that is proportionate to the level of disadvantage is needed. Oral health should be integrated within national health policies. Reorientation from a curative approach to a preventive approach, with efficient workforce models for oral health services, is required. Effective monitoring systems should be developed and implemented.
